Agh! Vista has ruined my life! (well maybe just my pc).

I'm moving back to xp.

Anyone else tried Vista and gone back to xp?

Practically all new MS software has lots of bugs and take time to stabilise; I am still using the good old XP - no need to upgrade for the sake of upgrading at all. Good luck :)

Im a Linux man myself <<< Geek alert!

I have a client who purchased 30 new pc from Dell that all came with Vista. Got a phone call 2 days after they arrived asking if I could put xp on them.

Vista - Good for the home on a high powered machine, bad for the office.

Heard so many things about Linux but just find it more convenient to use microsoft - such is Bill Gates' power. I am glad that I stick to XP and not upgrade to Vista.

I must agree. Microsoft is so embedded into the market that most people think its the only Operating System they can use!

The problem with Linux is that it is historically a "geeky" Operating System with it's roots in Open Source and community involvement. Installing it was a pain in the backside, configuring it was a nightmare and when you buy a new P.C., 99% of the time it comes with Windows installed due to Microsoft's dubious agreements with manufacturers!

But Microsoft is slowly loosing its grip. New Linux based Operating Systems like Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com)
are gaining a foothold in the market and have even done deals with manufacturers to come as a pre installed option. Maybe this will start to raise awareness that there are alternatives out there..

I've never tried it before but based on what I heard, it can support a lot of programs. This is only common to new softwares.

I haven't switched and honestly after reading some of what others have had to say I don't fore see me switching in the near future. I heard that it is also hard to get off of the new computers? Has anyone else heard this?

It can be a complete mission to downgrade back to XP. The easiest way is to format the hard drive and install XP from scratch. :coffee:

That sounds like a major pain in the backside!

That does sound like a pain. And all new computers have this if they are windows based from what I have heard.

I am still on XP. Seems that Vista has no drivers for hardware like printers and scanners. There may also be a class-action suit against Microsoft on Vista.

I had not heard that there might be a class action suit? What is that all about? Curious to know. Thanks.

I use both Linux and Vista. I prefer Vista to Xp but according to PCPRO magazine XP with Service Pack 3 out performs Vista with Service Pack 1, something for you to think about.

I find Vista easier to use and I think that the driver support is now a lot better but with OEM computer suppliers soon unable to build PCs with XP by the end of april I think that Xp days are numbered.

Linux is nice but I just think that there are alot of programs I use that don't work on Linux because of compatability issues but I do have a computer with Linux on it.

I'm currently using Vista and it isn't too bad of course it has its problems but everything has problems. Once you get used to it, everything is fine.

I haven't tried it and went back because I never upgraded but I have heard of a lot of people doing this also. From what I have it it is not easy to do either.

I have never used Linux but am glad to see that some computers are coming with it on them. I just hate that Microsoft has the majority of the market and you don't have much of a choice.

My mum has just bought a new HP PC which came with Vista. After 3 days, when she was sorting through programs she doesn't use, it decided that it doesn't like her printer programs, and now she has just had to reset it to factory settings, because it would not allow her to re-install he printer drivers. It's only 3 days old!!!!

I have also had experience with linux...it was installed on some public computers where I used to work, and all the people who used it said that nothing can be done on them.

The problem is, I find, that people are too accustomed to one thing, as when I showed the young lads how to access the menu bar, (which was only at the top of the screen as opposed to the bottom with standard Windows 98 or XP.. :p) they were well away.

I also helped a girl write her coursework essay on linux, and print it. She just didn't look at the screen in front of her and take in what it showed. People need to look at what is in front of them for a moment, and absorb the information that is available, before just giving up!!

I'm with Matt on this one (Fellow Geek!). Linux is the Bee's bits!! I only use Microsoft because getting some of the games I play is a pain if not impossible in WINE, but for general office style PC use, Ubuntu would be perfect. Open Office knocks spots off MS-Office (and you can create PDFs for free!!)
I use Fedora Core 8 for my Web/Mail Server and wouldn't have a Windoze Server for all the Rice Wine in China!! lol
