For the last three months my pc has been the biggest cause of my daily stress, but being a bit thrifty and money being tight i've muddled on regardless. This was until Mon when i got so stressed a broke my desk!
So i invested in an extra 1gb of ram (taking it to 2gb), and a new 512mb graphics card to replace the 256mb card.
The result? Its running like a dream, my stress is gone and i'm left to just get on with my job.
The moral of the story is sometimes you need to splash out a little and not 'bootstrap' your way through your business life!

Yes. I agree with you. We can be penny wise and pound foolish sometimes. Most prices have gone up except for IT and electronic products.

Unless your work involves playing games or you have a VERY large screen the increase in speed is down to the memory not the video card - always a cheap upgrade!

Speaking of memory. I am a complete novice when it comes to virtual memory. How do you find out how much you have used on your computer? thanks.

On Windows XP do this..

Go to start bar and click.

Select "run"

type "taskmgr" into the box (without quotes)

This will bring up your task manager.

Click on the "Performance" tab and vola!

lol - I wish it involved playing games all day!

So for more of a boost, I should get more RAM?

Thanks so much. I am going to have to do this. If you need more is that adding RAM? Thanks

Yup, usually what I do is just reinstall the OS and it usually solves most of my problems of course I do that after I back-up all the information I need but still it works quite well. But yea adding more memory is always a big help.

The first thing that I do whenever I see some slow of the OS is that I delete some of my temporary files on the temp files. Another one that you can try is deleting some rarely used programs that you have.

I only use this as a last resort. Most windows problems can be sorted out without having to do a full re-install.
