of Subletting in England? At the moment I am renting 2 desks in an office in London as part of an “office share”. One of the people I share an office with is the Lease holder and every month I pay my rent to her, as opposed to the owner. There has been confusion recently as to whether, technically, the Lease holder is ‘Subletting’ to me or if it is simply a Shared Office space.

The Lease Holder was contacted by the Owner and asked to confirm she is NOT subletting. She replied to them in writing that she was not. She has told me that technically, because she also has a desk space in the office then technically this is not subletting and is actually just Shared Office Space. Is this true?

All occupants here have their own, clearly defined desk spaces and we each pay by standing order in to the Lease Holder’s account, Rent, Council Tax all inclusive every month. As far as I am aware she does have permission to Sublet.

I would be most grateful to anyone who could help me in this matter.
