View Full Version : Need to buy another Van
The time has come. I now need to buy another van for the business.
The question is, do I buy second hand (the first van was 4 years old when i purchased it and as never missed a beat) or do I buy new?
Your thoughts please...

I would not go for a band spanking new van as they loose so much money when they leave the forecourt. A van that is maybe 1-2 years old though is a must (if you have the money). You cannot turn up at a customers address in an old rust bucket either.
lol - and I had my heart set on a '91 Transit!
I was thinking something like an merc vito or vauxhall vivaro. Maybe '04 or '05?
I have an astra van at the mo which is good for sending a few guys out but I also have a few larger jobs in the works where i'm going to need to get a few more staff in so something with 3/4 seats would be good.

I would recommend a Vivaro. Great vans. Make sure you get a 6 speed one though.

Could you lease something? It always strikes me that this is a good set up for businesses.

I have never thought about leasing to be honest, can you still sign write the van?

No idea to be honest. I'd imagine so though, it would be a fairly common requirement for businesses. Most lease vehicles get sold off at auction by the lease company after a few years, and I've often seen them coming up for auction (guess where my vehicles originate?!) with evidence of advertising on the sides.

Yes, you can sign write most of them. It will be in the lease agreement.
Thanks Andrew C. I'm looking into leasing one right now
Well, I am now the proud owner of a Land Rover Defender 110. Not quite as big as a Vito but great fun!
I went for a early 2001 model which means I avoid the car Tax increases. Now the problem is that I just keep looking for things to drive over!

I knew you would go for a Land Rover. I'm guessing its the van style?
That's right Tim. It's a 110 van style. :)

Why not buy a second hand van? I mean if it runs well and is in good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one that is used.
I had the same ting a while back, but poted for second hand. After all a shiny new van would not have stayed too shiny for long with the amount of tools and thing I would be packing into it.
lol - thays just what I thought andasay. I give my land rover some real rough treatment like driving into fields down wooded lanes. Got some scratches down the side of it that would have made me cry if it was new.
